*** UPDATE - November 8, 2002 ***

We are now blocking exe files from being sent through Mountain Access mail server. This is due to the amount of viruses that are going around.
For those of you that must send exe's to your clients (for install programs, etc), we are not blocking setup.exe and software.exe named files. So, if you need to send an exe, please rename it to one of the two names above and the message will go through.

NEWSGROUPS

news.mountainaccess.net

Effective today, customers must now use their dialup username and dialup password to login to the newsgroups.
The old username of "newservice" and "begin" will be
discontinued on July 1, 2002.

This from OUR provider:

"This change was necessary to combat newsgroup spam. Since the old username/password could be used by anyone dialing into Qwest/UUnet/Aleron/Megapop it had been widely distributed across the Internet and was being used by many other ISP's that are not our customers or clients. By having each subscriber use their own username/password, we make it much easier to limit who is using the newsgroups and combat spam."

Though many do not use the Newsgroups (a fascinating, if not consuming, part of the Internet, all on its own...), you will need these settings for whatever NewsReader you prefer:

News Server: news.mountainaccess.net
Username:
Your Dialup Username (NOT Email Username!)
Password:
Your Dialup Password

To change the username/password of the Newsgroups in Outlook Express:

  1. Launch Outlook Express.
  2. Click on "Tools - Accounts".
  3. Select the "News" tab.
  4. Highlight your newsgroup account: news.mountainaccess.net
  5. Click on "Properties".
  6. Select the "Server" tab.
  7. Edit the username/password to match your dialup account username/password.
